Accessible path
A stretch of almost 300 m. of the route inside the garden from the entrance to the Tea House was adapted so that baby strollers, wheelchairs, people with canes and visually impaired people can be accompanied.
Eliminating barriers
Based on the participatory diagnosis with people with disabilities, the advice of schools and specialized professionals, physical, communicational and cognitive barriers were identified in the JBU trail.
Based on the social model of disability and in accordance with the principles of universal accessibility, it was proposed to adapt a section of the property to guarantee safe and comfortable access for all people, and work was done on the elimination of barriers and the design of reasonable adjustments.
The subject was addressed with students from EdEI (School of Integral Education) and the CAAD (School of Integral Education).Center for Alternative Activities for People with Disabilities)The Provincial Accessibility Program was consulted and the evaluation of IN.FUE.TUR (Instituto Fueguino de Turismo) was carried out.
Actions taken:
- changes and improvements to the layout by widening, leveling and reducing slopes,
- signage with large print, pictograms and braille signs
- construction of ramps and rest areas;
- delimitation with lateral skirting as a guide for the orientation and mobility cane; ,
- placement of railing in the creek;
- vehicular access to the buildings.
The work was made possible thanks to a subsidy from the Forestry Law corresponding to Operational Plan No. 2, The project is the result of community participation in work days with volunteers and the collaboration of a maintenance crew from the municipality of Ushuaia.
This process seeks to promote an inclusive experience that allows the entire community to enjoy the natural environment of the JBU. Future actions are planned for greater accessibility.
